REWARDS UNDER THE FLORIDA WHISTLEBLOWER LAW
Those who file Florida False Claims Act cases may receive whistleblower rewards of 15% to 25% of any recoveries in matters joined by the Florida attorney general, and between 25% and 30% of the recovery if the whistleblower proceeds with the qui tam case without the intervention of the attorney general. The court may reduce the amount of the whistleblower reward if the whistleblower’s allegations are based on publicly disclosed information or if the whistleblower planned and initiated the fraud.
Whistleblower Protections and Rewards - National Whistleblower Center
A variety of powerful U.S. laws provide financial incentives for whistleblowers to report evidence of wrongdoing, with the amount of rewards tied to how much the whistleblower contributed to the success of prosecutions. Examples of these reward laws are:
The False Claims Act, which requires payment to whistleblowers of between 15 and 30 percent of the government’s monetary sanctions collected if they assist with prosecution of fraud in connection with government contracting and other government programs; Under the federal and state False Claims Acts, whistleblowers are empowered to file a “qui tam” lawsuit. “Qui tam” is a legal doctrine that allows a private citizen to step into the shoes of the government and represent the public in recovering monies owed.
The IRS whistleblower law, which requires payment to whistleblowers of 15 to 30 percent of monetary sanctions collected if they assist with prosecution of tax fraud.
